The big dig on Colby Road is part of a major natural gas pipeline project that has been under way for 15 years.

Since the end of March, employees of Columbia Gas of Winchester and its contractor have been working on farmland near The Ridings, moving earth to lay approximately 4,000 feet of 12-inch steel pipe to replace an old gas line.

Risa Richardson, a spokesperson for the company, said the line will run to Todds Road in Lexington and is part of the same line that has been laid on Irvine Road (Ky. 89) on the east side of Clark County.
