Clark Regional Medical Center announced Friday that veteran administrator Matt Smith has accepted the position of chief executive officer.

Smith has been serving as CEO of Bourbon Community Hospital in Paris since 2017 and formerly held the post of chief operating officer at CRMC.

“Matt was the natural choice for Clark Regional’s new CEO,” said Cherie Sibley, FACHE, Central Division president of LifePoint Health, of which Clark Regional is a part. “He has proven to be a talented and dedicated leader, and the trust he has already built among our employees, physicians and community will be invaluable as he seeks to grow Clark Regional for the future. With Matt at the helm, I am confident that the hospital will continue to advance its vital mission of Making Communities Healthier.”

Under Smith’s leadership, Bourbon Community Hospital was twice listed among Kentucky’s “Best Places to Work” and invested in significant facility improvements.

As COO of Clark Regional, his numerous achievements included helping improve physician satisfaction from 20 percent to 90 percent in a 17-month period.

Prior to his role as COO at Clark Regional, Smith served as the hospital’s assistant administrator, managing multiple departments. He also has held posts as CEO of Professional Rehabilitation Associates, PSC, in Richmond, and director of physical therapy at Clark Regional.

“Matt is exactly the type of leader we were looking for during our search, and I’m excited to see all that he will accomplish as CEO of Clark Regional,” said Raymond Smith, chairman of the Clark Regional Medical Center board of trustees. “Our board looks forward to working with him to build on our success, continue to deliver excellent care to our region and grow the many ways Clark Regional serves this community.”

Smith earned a master of business administration degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. He has a B.A. in health care management from Midway College and an associate’s degree in physical therapy from the University of Kentucky.

“I am excited to take on this new role at Clark Regional,” Matt Smith said. “I know firsthand what a truly exceptional hospital and community this is, and I am excited to continue to expand and enhance our services here and fulfill our vision of being a place where people choose to come for healthcare, physicians want to practice and employees want to work.”
