Chad Royer’s passions are riding motorcycles and advocating for unborn babies, and for the past couple of years, he has combined them by doing one-day, 1,000-mile charity rides to raise money and awareness for the Hope Resource Center, a pregnancy care center in Bedford, Indiana.

What he has learned, though, is that many people don’t know what a pregnancy center is and what it does, so this week and next, he is upping his game. Royer will ride for seven days to seven cities with pregnancy centers that are closest to places called Hope.

“We are the nearest pregnancy center to Hope, Kentucky,” said Becki Arvin, executive director of New Beginnings in Winchester.

She said Royer, of Springville, Indiana, will be arriving at New Beginnings at 139 Jefferson St. Sunday, where she will give him a tour, and anyone else who wants to come and tour the center with him is welcome.

Royer isn’t going to be raising money for New Beginnings, Arvin said. His goal is to raise awareness of the work of nonprofit family centers like hers that help expectant and new mothers.

“He just wants to spotlight the staff and the facilities and the work they do for families and babies,” she said.

Royer’s Hope Ride includes Hopes in Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kansas, North Dakota and Minnesota. The 3,500-mile ride will begin June 13 at Hope Resource Center in Bedford, and he hopes to return by June 20.

Each evening when he arrives at one of the destinations, Royer will make a Facebook post about his hometown pregnancy center and pro-life issues so people tracking his adventure will be more informed, Royer said in an emailed flyer. He is encouraging others to share his posts, and said he hopes for “a Facebook blitz” of information about his cause and his ride.
