Clark among Top 10 for census response
Clark is among the Top 10 Kentucky counties for its census response rate.
The latest 2020 census response rates released show Kentucky has already met its 2010 census response rate, and Clark Countians have played a large role in that milestone, with 73 percent of residents having responded to the decennial survey.
Kentucky’s other top 10 counties include:
— Oldham, 80.9 percent
— Spencer, 78.1 percent
— Bullitt, 76.6 percent
— Boone, 75.8 percent
— Daviess, 75.3 percent
— Nelson, 75.2 percent
— Anderson, 74.6 percent
— Scott, 74.5 percent
— Jessamine, 73.7 percent
With three months to go until the October 31 deadline, 67.5 percent of Kentucky households have responded to the 2020 census, accounting for about 975 million households, according to a press release from the U.S. Census Bureau. The final response rate in 2010 was 67.5 percent.
With Michigan, Washington and Nevada, Kentucky is one of the first four states in the country that have either met or exceeded its 2010 response rate. Kentucky’s response to the 2020 census ranks 17th in the nation.
Households who have yet to respond can complete the 2020 census online at 2020census.gov, by phone at 1-844-330-2020, or by mail. Households that do not respond to the census will receive a visit from a census taker starting in mid-August to help them respond.
Households can respond online in English or 12 other languages or by phone. Households can also respond by mail using the paper questionnaire.
As required by the U.S. Constitution, the once-a-decade census must count every person living in the United States. Census data are the basis for our democratic system of government, ensuring that representation in government is equally distributed, according to the release.
Census results shape the future of communities, as census data informs how $675 billion in federal funds are distributed for health clinics, school lunch programs, disaster recovery initiatives and other critical programs and services for the next 10 years.
