Glenn Hayse Gilkison, 97, widower of Mae Hall Gilkison, passed away on Thursday, Aug. 13, 2020 at The Willows at Hamburg. He was born in Rowan County, Kentucky, on Nov. 24, 1922 to the late Walter Lee and Grace Cassity Gilkison. Mr. Gilkison was a United States Army veteran of World War II and a deacon emeritus of Central Baptist Church, Winchester.
He retired from Tennessee Gas Pipeline in 1986 after 35 years as a surveyor and pipeline foreman. He spent his retirement years passing out buckeye nuts to acquaintances recommending they carry for good health and perfecting his love of gardening. A great joy came from raising beautiful tomatoes and giving them to his friends.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth (Nelson) Curry, Winchester and Mary Leigh (Mark) Snowden, Batavia Ohio. Three grandchildren, Erin Curry (David) Roach, Hendersonville Tennessee, Walter N. Curry (Rachel), Paducah, Kentucky, and Lauren M. Snowden, Columbia Tennessee. Six great-grandchildren, Kylee Maeg Sturgill, Caroline Grace Roach, Mallory Layne Roach, Hutton Turner Roach, William Nelson Curry III, and Thomas Hayse Curry. One niece, Nannette Stevens, Flatwoods, Kentucky. Two special friends Keith Akers and Robert Fugate, Winchester.
Services will be Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020 at the Winchester Cemetery Layne Shelter at 11 a.m. Visitation will be prior to service at 10:30 a.m. Family requests to please wear a face covering.
