Jonathan Samuel “Sam” Stanley, 34, of Winchester died Wednesday, Nov. 4, after a long battle with chronic medical conditions.

Sam was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School and attended Culinary Arts School.

Sam loved being surrounded by nature. He was passionate about fishing and had a keen sense of humor and a dry wit. We were all charmed by his sparkling blue eyes and mischievous smile.

Sam appreciated breathtaking scenery and would marvel at the massive sky and clouds. He found peace when looking at the moon, the stars, a sunrise, or sunset.

He was a generous soul and wanted to help those in need, especially the homeless. He loved cooking for his family.

Sam will be missed greatly and the absence of his kind voice and easygoing personality will leave a void in the hearts of all who loved him.

Sam is survived by his parents, Mary Emmons and Gary Clay of Winchester, and Jonathan and Genevieve Stanley of Lexington; sister Megan Jessica Stanley (Tim Hunt) of Denver, Colorado; grandmother Susan Adams of Winchester, beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his border collie Bella.

He was preceded in death by grandparents Drew and Mary Lucy Emmons and Lt. Col Harlan Adams.

A private funeral mass will be held November 13 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sam’s memory to St. Vincent DePaul Society, 248 South Main Street, Winchester, KY 40391.
