Lucille (Ison) Sallee, 83, of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away on Dec.13, 2020, at her home following prolonged complications from a form of Parkinson’s Disease known as Multiple Symptom Atrophy (MSA).

Lucille was born on Aug. 6, 1937, in Letcher County, Kentucky, to the late Edgar and Lona Ison, and was the wife of over 52 years to the late Claude Sallee, Jr.

She was the loving mother of Claude Douglas Sallee (Jane) of Richmond, Kentucky, and Michael Dean Sallee (Ninya) of Winchester, Kentucky. She adored her grandsons, Logan Michael Sallee (Angela) and Landon Strode Sallee along with her great-grandsons Owen Michael Sallee and Nathaniel Joseph Sallee.

Lucille grew up in a loving Christian family and spent her early years in the community of Kingdom Come Creek, Letcher County, until her family moved to Jackson, Kentucky. There she graduated from Jackson City High School. She later attended Lees Junior College in Jackson, where she met her husband Claude.

After marrying, she graduated from business school and worked as a secretary for a Dayton, Ohio, TV station, and for the president of Morehead State College. She also worked as a secretary for the Green County Mental Health Department in Xenia, Ohio, and for the public school system in Saginaw, Michigan.

Her family then moved back to Kentucky where they settled in Winchester.

There she was secretary at George Rogers Clark High School, during one point working alongside her husband, who was the principal.

She closed her career as executive secretary at Winchester Farms Dairy. While there, she spearheaded the annual United Way Campaign for many years.

She was faithfully in the stands or seats proudly supporting her sons and grandsons while they were playing sports, coaching or involved in any other activity, always their biggest fan.

After retirement, she enjoyed making Sunday evening meals and spending time with her family. She loved her annual sisters’ fall outings, shopping with family and friends, decorating her home, picnics and attending church functions. She passed on her Christian values and lived as a role model to her family and all who knew her. She was unquestionably a gentle, sweet and kind lady who worked tirelessly to provide a wonderful home for her family. Most of all, she was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother (Memaw) and great-grandmother, which brought her great pride and joy.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her in-laws, Claude Sallee, Sr. and Ellis Sallee; brothers-in-law Arnold B. Marshall and Doug Ison; and nephews Mark Stephen Mullins and Mark Collins.

She is survived by her sons, daughters-in-law, grandsons and great-grandsons along with her beloved sisters and brother: Pauline Ison, Donald Ison (Marsha), Wanda Mullins (Marcus) and Barbara Osborne (Mike).

She is also survived by her dear brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Fern (Clem) Collins, Bess ‘Bet’ Marshall, Donna (Dale) Collins, Samuel Jesse (Evelyn) Sallee and Bobby (Betty) Sallee; nephews Greg Sallee, Scott Sallee, Brian Collins, Robin Gillum, Kelly Ison and Josh Porter; and nieces Diana Dine, Denise Kelly, Cheri Chaney, Beth Ann Collins, Missy Little, Becky Roush and Melanie Slater. In addition, she leaves special cousins, cousins-in-law and great nephews and nieces.

Lucille was a faithful member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Winchester. She loved her church family and always appreciated the cards and support shown to her.

A special thank you to her compassionate care givers Allyson Walson, Patty Haney and Trish Spivey. Each was a wonderful blessing to Lucille and the family. They are loved dearly.

There will be a private family service, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 6155 Mt. Sterling Road Winchester, KY.

Scobee Funeral Home, Winchester, will be in charge of arrangements.

A graveside service will follow at the Sallee-Minnix Cemetery, Rousseau, Kentucky.

Presiding over the services will be Dr. Neil Salvaterra.

Pallbearers will be Logan Sallee, Landon Sallee, Greg Sallee, Scott Sallee, Brian Collins, Robin Gillum, Kelly Ison and Josh Porter.
