JoAnn Range Walden, 91, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2021, at Clark Regional Medical Center. She was born on Nov. 14, 1929, in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Chester Lloyd and Ethel Edster Range. She was a resident of Winchester since age five. She graduated from Winchester High School and the University of Kentucky with a major in music education. While there she was a member of the University Characters under the direction of Miss Mildred Lewis and of Phi Beta Music Fraternity. JoAnn continued her studies at Eastern Kentucky University earning a master’s degree in education and a Rank One with reading specialty. She taught in the Winchester City and Clark County school systems for 37 years.
JoAnn was a member of First Baptist Church where she participated in the Sanctuary Choir from the age of 15, was children’s choir director and Sunday School Teacher over the years. She was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class.
She enjoyed music, reading, flowers, bridge with her friends, and gathering with her family.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd Andrew (Josey) Walden, grandsons, Fred Parrish Pace and Kendon Allen Walden, nieces, Debra Shearer Adams, Saundra Shearer, Shelia Walden McCord, Nita Walden Flynn, Charmaine Walden Adams, Elizabeth Walden Raftery, and Ginny Walden Carrington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald Walden, daughter Donna Ann Walden, granddaughter, Martha Pace, and daughter-in-law, Billie Eades Walden.
Services will be at 1 p.m., Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at First Baptist Church by Pastors Don Burkhead and Tony Stang. Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Ramsey Flynn, John Flynn, Gary Adams, and Fred W. Pace. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Ruth Sunday School Class and Jadson -Sharp Music Group, and Thursday Bridge Clubs, and special friends Evelyn Layne and Don and Recy Aldridge, Mary and Vic Bloomfield.
Visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Society and First Baptist Church.
