GRC students named to Youth Salute

Thirty-seven students from George Rogers Clark High School are among hundreds of high schools in Central Kentucky recognized in this year’s “Youth Salute.”

Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principals for this year’s Youth Salute.

To qualify, the student had to be a junior (senior class of 2021), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two  leadership roles to which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.

The Sun will feature several students each week.

Megan Huff

Megan is a member of the National Honor Society, leadership advisory and Pep Club, and feature editor of the school newspaper. She has danced at Dancer’s Pointe for 14 years, a Dancewerks scholarship recipient and participates in A Chance to Dance. She is a Jesus Prom escort and a member of the Calvary Christian Church youth group.

Paiton Marcum

Paiton has perfect attendance and a member of the soccer team, National Beta Club, National Honor Society, FFA, is president of GRC Buddies of the Bluegrass and a member of the First Church of God youth group.

She plans to pursue a degree in veterinary medicine.

Rachel Ball

Rachel is HOSA secretary and a member of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the GRC tennis team ad Clark County Community Foundations scholars. She is a junior counselor at Wesley Woods Camp, and a member of Leadership Advisory and Ignite Youth Group.

She plans to major in nursing at Eastern Kentucky University and hopes to become a labor and delivery nurse.

Reed Johnson

Reed has had perfect attendance throughout high school and is a member of the varsity basketball team, FFA, National Honor Society, Beta Club, Pep Club and National Honor Society of High School Scholars. He is also sports anchor for the school news.

He plans to major in business at college.

Riley Turley

Riley is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, HOSA Club and As You Are Club. She is a Dining with Dignity advocate and a Mentors and Meals tutor. She volunteers at Baptist Health and had a fellowship at Baptist Health.

She plans to become a physician’s assistant in emergency services before going to medical school.
