Crocuses in bloom

One of the early and lovely signs of springtime in Winchester each year are the these thousands of tiny purple crocuses that carpet the lawn of Al Gala’s house on Burns Avenue across from the Clark County Public Library.

Crocuses are flowering perennials of the iris family, and there are more than 80 species ranging in color from mauve and lavender to yellow and white.
