Susan Carol Donohue Houlihan, 78, passed away on March 23, 2021, surrounded by her family. Formerly of Winchester, she was the wife of the late Michael Spencer Houlihan and the mother of Angela Houlihan Tafel and Michael Spencer Houlihan, Junior, both of Louisville.
Sue was born on Feb. 1, 1943, in Glasgow, Kentucky to the late George Rapier Donohue and Helena Simpson Donohue. She graduated from Caverna High School in 1961 and the University of Kentucky in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Kentucky Nurses Association, and the Junior League of Lexington.
Sue is survived by her children, Angela Houlihan (Danny) Tafel and Michael Spencer (Stacy) Houlihan, Junior, and her sister, Patricia Donohue (Mick) Wilhoit of Tallahassee, Florida. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Daniel Edward Doherty Tafel, Junior, Thomas Donohue Tafel, Taylor Williams Houlihan, and Michael Spencer Houlihan, III; a brother-in-law, John Spencer (Kathy) Houlihan of Winchester; her sisters-in-law, Anne Houlihan (Bill) Brown of Taos, New Mexico and Ann Todd Houlihan Dupree of Lexington; and her faithful, four-legged companion, Teddy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Edward Thomas Houlihan, Junior.
The family would like to thank Sharon Bland for her support and friendship over the past five years. A private graveside service will be held at the Winchester Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Susan G. Komen or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
