Winchester’s new downtown park will get a new name and a new work of art this weekend.

Local artist Nathan Hatch’s abstract steel sculpture will be installed on an island in the parking lot at 19 N. Main St. that is also now an outdoor events venue and has been renamed Many Friends Parklette.

The unveiling will occur at noon during May Market Days.

The downtown festival, offered by the Winchester Downtown Collective, will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m.

There will also be a 4-H children’s art project from 10-11:30 a.m. in front of the Clark County Courthouse, and various artists will be performing their crafts on the sidewalks.

In a letter to the City of Winchester, Chad Walker of Walker Properties, who is paying half of the estimated $8,500 cost of installing the sculpture, with the other half coming from various donors, said Hatch’s work of art is a gift to the city. Brick pavers with the names of the donors also will be installed. The minimum donation is $125. Donors will be invited to an exclusive event afterward that will include a conversation with the artist.

Walker owns the Engine House restaurant on West Lexington Avenue and is involved in downtown revitalization efforts.
