Henry Clay Steele of Winchester, Kentucky, passed away in the early morning hours of May 12, 2021, at the Willows of Hamburg in Lexington, Ky. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years Betty Sparks Steele. Henry was the eldest son of Clay and Mildred Steele.
He is survived by two sons, Jeffery (Janey) and Michael (Sherry) Steele both of Winchester. Henry was extremely proud of all four of his grandchildren: Molly (Logan) Mayfield, Catey Steele, Amanda (Tyler) Woosley, and Sam Steele. He is also survived by his brother Bobby (Mary) Steele, Brother-in-laws Dr. Donald Sparks, Joe Manning, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Henry was a 1951 graduate of North Middletown High School Honorable Mention All-State basketball player, a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a retired employee of South-Central Bell/AT&T, and later Tele-tech. Henry was an avid fisherman and a University of Kentucky sports fan. He loved to travel and vacationing at many beach destinations. During his time in the United States Air Force, he traveled the world visiting 40 different countries and six continents. He was one of the founding members and later presidents for many years of the Clark County Football Boosters.
Henry leaves behind a loving family and many friends and a full and happy lifetime of wonderful memories. He was a determined and very strong-willed man who left a positive impact on all who met and knew him.
Due to COVID concerns services are for immediate family only graveside ceremony at North Middletown Cemetery Friday, May 14 at 1 p.m.
