Martha Elizabeth Dykes Gaither, 84, widow of John Frederick Gaither, passed away Thursday, May 13, 2021, at her home. She was born in Clark County, Kentucky on June 3, 1936, to the late Ealler and Ada Mae Pace Dykes. After 35 years she retired from Bluegrass Army Depot. She was a treasured family member of Providence Baptist Church. She was also a member of First Settlers Homemakers Club, Clark County Extension District Board, Clark County Extension Council, Clark County Homemakers Council, and a chair member of Boonesboro Lioness/ Lions Club. She loved watching all U.K. athletics, reading, and crocheting.
She wanted everyone to know “My love of Jesus Christ and any service to the church, my love of my family, friends, and service to others.”.
Survives include Niece, Martha Jean Finkbeiner (Brice) Foster; stepson, John Gordon Gaither; granddaughter, Carole Diane (Thomas) Chevalier; great-granddaughter, Emily Christine Ceresa; great-grandson, Scott (Krista) Ceresa; great-niece, Madeline Ann Foster, Brilee Elizabeth Foster, and many selected friends and family.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, sister, Shirley Ann Dykes Finkbeiner; stepdaughter-in-law, Janet Gaither; grandson, Ian Hamilton Gaither; and brother-in-law, RD “Jim” Finkbeiner.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 17, 2021, at Leon Pace Memorial Chapel by Pastor Wendell Phelps. Burial will follow in the Winchester Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Varner, Aaron Haggard, Andrew Haggard, Brandon Collins, Jerry Leach, and Pete Hardy.
Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Sunday, May 16, 2021, at Leon Pace Memorial Chapel.
