SPECIAL TO THE SUN

Dancers from the Winchester Christian Ballet dazzled two audiences with their performances of “The Prince of Egypt” at the Mount Zion Christian Church Friday and Saturday.

For the company’s spring recital, nearly 50 local girls and young ladies performed 14 dances that told the story of Moses leading his people to freedom and showcased the young ladies’ talents dancing to powerful Christian music.

“We were delighted to entertain so many of the dancers’ families and friends with the art of movement,” said Elana Irwin Perkins, the company’s artistic director and former professional ballerina.  “Everyone worked incredibly hard under difficult circumstances to make this a success.”

Mary Bolar, president and studio director, credited the dancers and the entire team at Winchester Christian Ballet for the success of the performances.

“We were incredibly blessed to keep going this past year,” she said. “Our faculty of teachers, our board, volunteers and parents came through once again to make this weekend one that the girls and their families will never forget.”

During her career, Perkins danced professionally in the U.S. and in Europe. Other faculty members include Emma Reece, Deven Cecil, Ginny Osbourn, Chynah Thompson and Abby Rank.

Winchester Christian Ballet board members include Kristy Nickell, Nichole Sparks, Rhonda Geogarian and Hope Hay. Diane Osbourn sewed and customized all the performers’ costumes.

Bolar said she encourages families with girls ages 3 and up to sign up for the company’s upcoming Summer Dance program June 21-24. The company’s fall classes will begin at the start of the next school year.
