William “Billy” Edward Strode, 84, of Winchester, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

A native of Winchester, he was born April 25, 1937, to the late Dr. Robert Edward Strode and Evelyn Garrard Strode. He graduated from Winchester High School in 1955, attended Centre College and was a member of the golf team, transferred to the University of Kentucky, and graduated with a B.S. degree in Agriculture.

He was an avid golfer, hunter, antique gun and knife collector, and a skilled horseman. His easygoing, gentle spirit will be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include three daughters, Baird Strode Hicks and Meredith Strode Merlo (Nestor) of Dallas, TX, and Shelby Strode Crosson (Adam) of Florence, SC; brother, Robert Garrard Strode of Winchester; grandchildren, McKenzie Strode Hicks, William Brantley Hicks, Evelyn Simone Rodriguez, Katherine Rice Crosson, Laura McDowell Crosson, and Camille Strode Crosson; cousin, Richard Strode (Caryl) of Lexington; and special, devoted friend, Katherine Williams Strode of Winchester. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marlow Strode Rodriguez.

The family would like to offer special thanks to caregivers, Joy Hill, Raylan Smith, Wilma Woosley, Connie Webster, and Lenora Lovings for their compassion, friendship, and skilled assistance, as well as Hospice East for making his final days comfortable and peaceful.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 10, at the Winchester Cemetery White Shelter. Pallbearers are Dr. Ben Asher, John Avent, Bobby Baldwin, Jim Clay, Will Hodgkin, Charles Hougland, Bob Napier, Bill Quisenberry, Tracy Smith, and Doyle Stone. A celebration of life will follow at 17 Windridge Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Clark County Animal Shelter, 5000 Ironworks Road, Winchester, KY, 40391, or Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Drive, Winchester, KY, 40391.
