On June 27, 2021, we stand in solidarity to celebrate National HIV Testing Day (NHTD). Beginning in 1995, National HIV Testing Day became a significant event, as it raised awareness about HIV/AIDS and strongly encouraged everyone to get tested. Today, we continue to work towards that goal. The earlier a reactive result is detected, the earlier the person can be linked to HIV care. Early detection and early initiation of treatment is key to a better quality of life.

This year’s theme is “My Test, My Way.’’ The significance of the 2021 theme is that there are multiple testing options available to choose from. HIV testing kits can be purchased at your local pharmacy and HIV testing can be conducted within the privacy of your home. You can also opt to test with your primary care physician (PCP), at a local health facility or free of charge at the Clark County Health Department. You have the autonomy to decide which testing site works best for you. No matter where you decide to test, risk-reduction specialists are only a phone call away to guide you through the process. For our local partners and healthcare providers, continue to empower your community on National HIV Testing Day. Promote testing, educate about prevention and reduce stigma related to HIV. Though National HIV Testing Day is observed on June 27, free HIV testing is available at the Clark County Health Department throughout the year.
