A home caught fire on 614 North Main Street in Winchester the morning of Friday, June 18. City firefighters swiftly extinguished the flames, but curiously, the home appeared vacant.

Lt. Scottie Highley was serving as Battalion chief when the fire was reported at 8:19 that morning. He and other firefighters were met by heavy smoke as they arrived. The fire started on the rear of the second floor, the heat and smoke severely damaging that portion of the home.

The Clark County Fire Department was called to assist Winchester’s, and both crews were able to subdue the flames within 22 minutes of the initial dispatch. No injuries were reported.

“The guys did a really good job,” said Chris Whiteley, Winchester’s interim fire chief. “It was a really aggressive interior attack. We got to the scene of the fire really quickly and extinguished it.”

As of the time of writing, a cause for the fire has not been determined. The incident is currently under investigation.
