David “Wayne” Altom

David “Wayne” Altom, 86, widower of Margaret Collins Altom, passed away June 29, 2021. He was born June 8, 1935, in Persia, Hawkins County, Tennessee, to the late John Warren Clifford Altom and Edna Price Altom. He was baptized in the Holston River in Hawkins County, Tennessee, below his grandfathers house and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Hawkins, Tennessee.

David was retired from Bell South, owner of Way-Mar Tack Shop for 44 years, and became a Mason of Lodge #20 in 1965.

He was a member of the Clark Co. Saddle Club and treasurer of Kentucky Walking Horse Association (KWHA) for 20 years. He also served as Kentucky Celebration Show Manager for 20 years, served on the board of KWHA for 25 years, and Bell South Pioneers Club. He enjoyed to volunteer his time working with Clark County election voting over 20 yrs, worked Bingo for many years, and on the Clark County Fair Board for 40 years. He is survived by his children, David (Sandra) Altom of Frankfort, Kentucky, Dan (Tracy) Altom of Covington, Kentucky, and Margaret A. (Mickey) Welch of Winchester; grandchildren, Sean (Stephanie) Altom and Ben (Paulina) Larison; a great-grandchild, Olivia Larison.

Services will be on Wednesday, July 7, at 1 p.m. at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, Winchester, with visitation from 11 a.m. until the hour of service.
