James Richard Bender, 89, widower of Della Crowe Bender, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Baptist Health in Lexington. He was born on May 7, 1932, in Grand Island, NE to the late Paul Leroy and Mary Lena Davis Bender. He was a member of Calvary Christian Church. He also proudly served in the United States Army.

He is survived by one son, Barton James Bender; one daughter, Holly Smith; one special step-daughter, Teresa (Tom) Welch; one step-daughter, Camille Cooper; one step-son, Watson (Cindy) Caudill; several grandchildren, and a special friend, Beverly Sherman.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, two sisters, Margaret Whipple, Frances Meader; and one brother, Bob Bender.

Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery by Wally Rendall.
