Opal Virginia Smith Armitage, 88, widow of Kenneth Armitage, passed away on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at her home. She was born in Frenchburg, Kentucky, on April 21,1933, to the late John M. and Elzie Ryder Smith. Opal was retired from the Housing Authority of Winchester and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, and was active in the Susanna Wesley Group.

Survivors include three children, Gregory (Alice) Armitage, Lisa (Michael) Combs, and Andrea (Garry) Morris; five grandchildren, Gretchen (Matthew Hatton) Rayburn, Zachary (Bethany) Combs, Dylan (Brittney) Combs, Austin Combs, and Ramsey Morris; three step grandchildren, Brandy (Martin) Stojkovic, Zachary (Jennifer) Morris, and Megan (James) Malear; two sisters, Florene Earlywine and Gail Mullins; a host of great grandchildren, extended family members, and two great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Pearl Faulkner, Margaret Hager, Bernice Wells, and Eunice Vanning: and two brothers, Ralph and Gordon Smith.

Opal will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know her. She lived a blessed life and one of her favorite sayings was “I’m the richest lady in town.” 

Services will be held at 2p.m., Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Taul Funeral Home, 118 Main Street, Frenchburg, Ky. by Pastors Kevin Parido and Eric Patterson with Scobee Funeral Home in care of arrangements. Burial will follow in the Mack Cemetery in Frenchburg. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
