Motor vehicle and watercraft tax unchanged for 2022

The ad valorem tax on motor vehicles and watercraft will remain as 19.5 cents for every $100 of assessed value.

The Winchester City Commission met for their regular meeting the evening of Tuesday to approve the second reading of an ordinance setting the tax rate of motor vehicles for the calendar year of 2022 – as required by KRS 182.487 prior to the Oct. 1 deadline.

Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner estimates this tax rate to have gone unchanged for more than 35 years. The tax will be collected by the Clark County Clerk each month. Four percent of the tax money will remain with the clerk’s office, with the rest going to Winchester’s general fund.

19.05 cents per $100 of assessed vehicle value. Revenue and penalties levied will be paid to General Fund for City of Winchester.

The commission unanimously approved the ordinance, however, Commissioner JoEllen Reed was absent and excused from this meeting.
