Wendell Ray Hull, 77, of Florence, Ky passed away on October 14, 2021 at St. Elizabeth in Florence. Wendell was born on May 3, 1944 in Winchester, Ky. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Eastern Kentucky University and a Master of Arts in Education from Northern Kentucky University. He worked for over 40 years as a band director and music educator in the Boone County School system and was a choral director in Boone and Clark County. He served as the President of the Northern Kentucky Music Educators Association and a Chairman of the Ohio-Kentucky Music Educators. He was awarded “Outstanding Young Man of the Year” by the Boone County Jaycees in 1979-80. December 15, 1991 was proclaimed “Wendell Hull Day” by the Boone County Judge/Executive. As Conner High School’s first ever band director, his bands received many awards and accolades that included preforming at the White House, the World’s Fair, the Orange Bowl, Walt Disney World, Riverfront Stadium, and many more places across Kentucky and beyond. In his off time, he was an avid skier, loved to travel and spent many years as a Knothole baseball coach. Wendell is preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Pearl Hull; his wife Sandra Lineville Hull; his sister Garnetta (Fred) Hull Rankin; father-in-law and mother-in-law O’Dell and Nora Lineville; his sister-in-law Loretta Hatton Hull. He is survived by his sons Wendell “Dell” Hull, James Hull, and Jacob Hull; his granddaughter Chloe Hull; his brothers Don (Gayle) Hull, and Gerald Hull and his children and grandchildren; his second wife Lucille Rainey and her children and grandson. A celebration of Wendell’s life will take place Sunday October 24th at the Conner High School Auditorium. All are welcome for a gathering of family, friends and community from 3 to 5 pm and a short memorial at 5 pm. Flowers can be sent to the Linnemann Funeral Home in Burlington, and they will be transported to the high school. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to the Conner High School Band and can be mailed in Wendell’s name to: Conner High School 3310 Cougar Path, Hebron, Ky 41048.
