Christmas is a few weeks away, but Main Street Winchester announced some events designed to spread holiday cheer.
According to a news release, the organization has Small Business Saturday scheduled for Nov. 27.

“Our dollars make a big difference for our small business owners here in Winchester. Not only do our small businesses create a sense of community, but they provide unique customer service experiences that remind you what Winchester is all about,” organization officials said in the release.

A week later, on Dec. 4, the organization will host the Jingle & Mingle event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Many Friends Parklet located at 19 N. Main Street.

“We will have a letter-writing area for the kids, so they can let Santa and his elves know what they wish for Christmas, vendors will be set up for you to buy some great gifts, and the main man himself, Santa, will be there from 1-3 p.m.,” Main Street Winchester officials said.

City Announces Christmas Tree Lighting and Festival of Lights

Winchester will hold the annual lighting of its Christmas tree at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 4 in front of the Clark County Courthouse.

The event will also feature carols and holiday readings.

Mayor Ed Burtner said earlier this month at a board of commissioner’s meeting that there will not be a Christmas Parade due to time constraints for planning such an event.

The city had to decide whether to host the parade early in the fall, and with COVID-19 cases surging at the time, they decided it would not be wise to do so, the mayor said.

In the parade’s place, residents are invited to register their homes or businesses for the Festival of Lights, which will last from Dec. 4 to Christmas Day. A map of participating locations will be released on Dec. 3.
