Jane Waller Hylton Green, widow of Ecton W. Green, Jr., passed from this life on December 14, 2021. She was born in Winchester to Homer and Anna Braxton Waller, who predeceased her. Her brilliance was undeniable. She graduated valedictorian of the Clark County High School in 1947 and attended both Kentucky Wesleyan College and the University of Kentucky. She blazed a trail for working mothers and professionals who would take nontraditional routes to business success. She was an executive officer of Delta Natural Gas Company for over forty years and served on the Delta Board of Directors and Powerline Construction Company as an officer and board member. During and after her professional career, our astute, gracious mother dedicated herself to creating opportunities for women in the workforce.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board and the Board of Trustees. She was a charter member of the Clark County ALTRUSA service club, a member of the Hart Chapter of the DAR and the Clark County Democratic Women’s Club, and served on the Board of Winchester Municipal Utilities. No person could better prepare to call, conduct, and report an organization’s board meeting than our mother. She loved working in service of the people who and entities that she valued, and her skills as organizer, orchestrator, and officer were unparalleled. The center of her world was her family. She cared for her elderly parents and raised women of strength and character. She encouraged her grandchildren to live rich lives full of fun and purpose. Whether it was enjoying a sunny afternoon on the golf course, a road trip with her daughters’ families, or a brunch at home with Ale-8 in champagne flutes and bacon gravy, there was always time for family, an abundance of laughter, and space beside her to get your arm scratched or your back rubbed. Our mother anchored this family, and we cherish the legacy she created for us.
She was predeceased by her brothers John M. Waller and Homer Lee Waller. She is survived by her daughters, Garnett Hylton Davis (Dr. William), Julia Hylton Adams (Steve), and Charla Jane Hylton, and her grandchildren, William S. Davis, Jr., Elizabeth Davis Morton, Rebecca Davis Upperman, Andrew Hampton Davis, Cole Adams Maier, and Lisle Hampton Adams, and her thirteen (13) great-grandchildren. Her sister, Sue Cole Waller Seale, of Alabama is left to cherish her memory along with Teresa Green Kincaid, Ellen Green, Jim Green, and the friends who became family, especially those who loved her as”Aunt Jane” or “Granny Jane.”
