Vanessa Oaks Rogers, 67, made her final curtain call on Wednesday evening, December 15, 2021. The daughter of Florene Ginter Oaks and Troy Franklin Oaks, she was born in Winchester, KY on October 10, 1954. Predeceased by her parents and a brother, Keith Franklin Oaks. She is survived by her husband, David H. Rogers, Clark Co. Also surviving are her brother, Dr. James Edward Oaks, of Lexington, KY, her stepson ,D. Hunt Rogers, Jr. and step grandson, David H. (Trey) Rogers 111 of Franklin, TN, her stepdaughter, Julia G. Rogers of Winchester, KY and Santa Monica, CA, her nieces, Morgan Oaks Gupta of Ada, MI, Mary Catherine Oaks Dinsmore of Madison Co., Brittany Oaks Mofield and Jessica Oaks.

She graduated from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, with an emphasis in Speech, English and Drama Performance and Production. A 27- yr teaching career began at Corbin, (KY) High School, where she taught English and Drama in a 6-yr tenure (1976-82), while simultaneously attaining her master’s degree from Union College.

Retuning to her hometown in 1982, she taught English, Speech and Drama at George Rogers Clark High School, before retiring in 2003. An accomplished and vibrant actress, director and producer before, during and after her teaching career, she participated in summer stock in Kentucky and Indiana. She also performed in numerous local productions in Winchester and Lexington, directed and produced Winchester’s Lions Club Minstrel, in addition to plays and musicals by the GRCHS Theater Department. She and her husband first met while serving on an exploratory committee seeking restoration of Winchester’s Leeds Theater.

After retiring from teaching, she was elected to the Clark County Fiscal Court, where she served as Commissioner from 2006-2014. Always active in her community, she belonged to several civic clubs, as well as being a member of First Christian Church where she served as Deacon, Elder and Elder Emeritus.

Rolan G Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Service will be Tuesday, December 21, at First Christian Church, at 1:00 , with visitation from 11:30 am till the hour of service. Visitation will be on Monday, December 20, at the church from 3-7:00 pm. COVID protocols, including mandatory masking will be observed. Jerry Johns and Steve Crosby will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to: First Christian Church, Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice East and Leeds Center for the Performing Arts.
