GRC Boys Basketball
This weekend, the Boys Basketball team took part in the King of the Bluegrass Tournament in Louisville. Against Orlando’s Lake Highland Prep – one of the top teams in Florida – the Cardinals won Saturday 76-60. Jerone Morton led the way with 30 points, while also pulling down a team-leading 9 rebounds. The team had a 52.8% field goal percentage, and shot 78.6% from the free throw line. The next day, against the #1 team from the state of South Carolina (Dorman), the team narrowly suffered its first loss 59-57. While Morton scored 20 points, Trent Edwards contributed 14 points also. Tanner Walton had 10 rebounds.
The Cardinals (6-1) continue their play on Monday with a contest against North Oldham (7-2), in a game that should be fairly evenly matched. After a week off, they’ll then compete in the White, Greer & Maggard Holiday Classic.
GRC Girls Basketball
This weekend, the girls took part in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic. On Saturday, they took on Boyd County and were victorious 69-34. The Byars sisters combined for 29 points, with Brianna Byars leading with 16 points and Ciara Byars having 13 points. Brianna Byars also led the way with 8 rebounds.
The next day, they defeated Anderson County 57-46. They’ll continue the tournament this week, with 2 games on Monday and one on Saturday. Their second of two matchups will be against Mercy High School, defending 24 th District Champions who come in with a 5-game winning streak.
