Coming off a loss in their regular season finale, the Lady Cards (26-2) opened up with a bang Monday night in the opener of the 40th District Tournament at Montgomery County.

Against the Bourbon County Lady Colonels (5-24), GRCHS came out on top with a 74-20 victory, their second-largest margin of victory this season next to a 77-21 thrashing of Campbell County.

Intense defensive pressure created over 30 turnovers, and 12 different players found the scoreboard for GRCHS. They were led by Ciara Byars’ 19 points, while sister Brianna Byars scored 16.

The Lady Cards then moved on to the District Tournament Championship Game, where they defeated host Montgomery County 70-53 on Thursday night.

The Lady Cards will now move on to the Girls Regional Tournament to take place at Nicholas County
High School in Carlisle. Pairings will be announced at Harrison County High School Saturday morning at 9:30.

After finishing the regular season, the Cards extended their record to 29-1 with a dominant 88-40 victory against over Bourbon County. At one point in the first quarter, they were able to run off 34 unanswered points, and had enough of a lead to start a running clock after halftime.

Jerone Morton and Trent Edwards tied for 17 points, while Sam Parrish scored 15 of his own. Their field goal percentage as a team was an off-the-charts 67.3%. On the other side, the Colonels (4-24) were forced into nearly 20 turnovers by a fierce Cardinals defense.

On Thursday night, the Cards will take on Paris (7-19) – who upset host Montgomery County (12-15) in the 40th District Championship game at Montgomery County High School.

Pairings for the Boys Regional Tournament will be announced at Harrison County High School Saturday morning at 10:00.
