Charles Anderson Carey passed away at his home in Winchester, KY on Feb. 16, 2022. His loyal dog Sydney was right by his side. Charles was born in Stuttgart, Germany on Jan 10, 1959 to the late William Milton Carey and Mildred Jordan Carey, during the time that his father was stationed in the military there. He grew up in the lovely town of Kenova, West Virginia. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Marshall University and went on to receive his Master’s of Business Administration Degree from North Lexington University. His career took him to many locations throughout the country during his lifetime — Seattle, Rochester, Cincinnati, Chicago, Louisville.. yet he always felt in his spirit that eastern Kentucky was his home. He was proud to be a “Kentucky man.”

Charles served in the Army where he became very dedicated to health and fitness. This was a lifelong interest and passion for him, he loved to share this knowledge with others. He was a voracious reader of books, especially philosophy. His favorite authors included Dostoyevsky, Aristotle and Socrates. He loved animals and throughout his lifetime Charlie could usually be found hanging out with his dog. His favorite pastimes included going on long daily walks with his dog in the nearby parks, checking out books from the library, going to the gym and relaxing by his fireplace. He considered himself to be a minimalist later on in life, choosing to focus on the simple things that mattered most— helping others, and having gratitude for every day. He was a sensitive and intellectual soul who left a deep impression on the lives of those around him. An independent thinker to his core, Charles was never afraid to be his own person, which earned him great respect throughout his lifetime. Nobody could give advice or make a point in a more eloquent way than Charles. His words, wisdom & unique presence will live on forever in the minds of his friends, who cherished him.

One consolation for those he has left behind is that he is now reunited with his beloved son, Michael Anderson Carey, who preceded him in death in 2009. Charles deeply missed his son and the knowledge that they are finally together again is a wonderful thing. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel Marie Carey, of Sarasota, Florida and his daughter Heather Denise Carey, of Woodbridge, VA, along with three beautiful grandchildren, Reign, Nataya and Tiana, and his siblings Robin Lynn Carey, of Virginia Beach, VA, John Kevin Carey of Titusville, FL, David Milton Carey, of Coal Grove, OH, William A Elkins Jr. of Ashland, KY, William James Carey of Warner Robbins, GA.
