Joe Reed Memorial Heart Walk raises $10,000
This past Saturday, April 23, Clark Regional Medical Center hosted the annual Joe Reed Memorial Heart Walk to benefit the American Heart Association (AHA).

More than 75 people attended to help fight heart disease and stroke, recognize and honor survivors and walk the 1-mile route around Clark Regional Medical Center.

The premier Healthy for Good Sponsors were Clark Regional Medical Center, Georgetown Community Hospital, UK Healthcare and Kroger.

Eight local teams participated raising over $10,000.

“The American Heart Association would like to thank everyone who came out; and a special thanks to Clark Regional Medical Center, Leggett & Platt, and Sekisui for their support!” Jackie Dawson, AHA Heart Walk Director, said. “We appreciate everything the local community does to promote the AHA’s mission and look forward to continuing our work here for years to come.”

ART contest winners announced
The winners of Achieving Recovery Together’s lunch bag art competition have been announced.

1st place went to Blake Mayhorn from Baker Intermediate School. 2nd place went to Addison Saylor from Robert D. Campbell Junior High School. 3rd place went to Adelynn Anderson from George Rogers Clark High School.

Each winner received a gift card–ranging from $50 for 1st place to $20 for 3rd as a prize–as a prize.

The contest was part of the Winchester-based recovery non-profit’s awareness efforts during National Alcohol Awareness Month.

PIE holds recognition breakfast
Partners In Education hosted their 4th annual Volunteer Recognition Breakfast last Tuesday, April 19, at Baker Intermediate.
The Winchester-based non-profit recognized 22 volunteers who mentored students in grades K-8 this school year.

Executive Director Greg Yates and Board of Directors Chair Coos Ockers presented the PIE Director of the Year award to Kathy Howard.

Eric Lane was named the PIE Volunteer of the Year. Lane serves on the PIE Board and works at Catalent Pharma Solutions.
