Including last Wednesday’s contest against Bourbon County, the Cards (10-11) went 1-2 this week in a trio of hard-fought matchups.

They came out on top of a matchup in Paris against Bourbon County (11-7), winning 7-1. It was their second victory against the Colonels this season, and ended with the same score.

Brady Davis pitched a 7-inning complete game, striking out 7 while giving up only 2 hits. Caden Spicer led the way offensively
with three RBIs, while Davis had another 2. Outfielder J.P. Gaines went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored,and stolen bases.

On Saturday, in a pitcher’s duel, the Cards fell by a narrow 3-2 score against Somerset (11-11). Lochlan Hansel pitched four innings of two-hit ball while striking out 6, while Jordan Soliz and Keyonte Back combined for 7 strikeouts over the final three frames. Hits were delivered by Nick Huff, Tanner Walton,
and Carter Maynard – who scored following an overthrow during a successful steal of third base.

On Monday afternoon, in Mt. Sterling, the Cards gave the Montgomery County Indians (8-11) all they could handle. Unfortunately, they came up just short in a 6-5 loss that went into 9 innings. The Cards managed to strike out 12 batters, including 10 from Brady Davis. Davis also had an RBI to go with 3 hits, while Caden Spicer had a pair of RBI’s as well.

This upcoming week, the Cards will have a slew of matchups. They’ll start by taking on Paris at 5:30 Thursday evening in a game away from Winchester. The
Greyhounds enter the game at 7-13, and have lost their last two matchups by a combined 21 runs after defeating Somerset Christian School by double digits the game prior.

Following this matchup, the Cards return home for the first time in two weeks on Monday, May 2nd when they have a rematch against Montgomery County at 5:30.

Just one day later, they’ll be back on the road against top-ranked Harrison County (15-3) during a matchup in Cynthiana that’s certain to draw fanfare.
