Graduation is a joyful occasion that comes with two common headaches: the weather and parking.

So ahead of the ceremony for the George Rogers Clark Class of 2022 here is what attendees and graduates need to know directly from Principal Jamie Keene before Friday’s 7 p.m. ceremony at the school’s football stadium.

There are three places to park for the graduation: the parking lots around GRC, at Campbell Junior High School and at Christview Christian Church.

There will be plenty of assistance.

“We will have a lot of people and a lot of staff on the ground. They are going to help make sure that people are parked in the right spots,” Keene said.

Special parking will be available close to the stadium for the elderly and those with special physical needs.

The school will also have rides for people who have to park far away.

“We will have golf carts and side-by-sides in the parking lot to shuttle people to the stadium. We will also be running buses from Robert D. Campbell Junior High,” Keene said.

GRC’s principal has advice for any attendees who plan to wait until close to start time to park.

“The traffic does get pretty bad and it gets pretty backed up,” Keene said. “I would say that 6 p.m. is the latest that people will want to get in there. Any later and they will risk getting caught in a lot of traffic and missing a portion of it.”

All parking for the ceremony is free.

The Weather

As of Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service office in Louisville is forecasting a high temperature in the upper 60s with an 80 % chance of rain, mainly in the early afternoon.

So, what happens if inclimate weather does strike close to the ceremony?

“The plan right now is to move it [back] a day or the next if need be,” Keene said.

He explained that there are currently no plans to move the ceremony indoors to the GRC Arena due to logistical issues and limited seating.
