Paul I. Baber, 93

Paul I. Baber, 93, passed away on May 28, 2022. He was the only son of Nelson Howell Baber and Nancy Johnson Baber of Winchester, Ky. Born in Winchester, Paul attended Hickman Street Elementary School and graduated from Winchester High School in 1946. He graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1950. He was drafted by the U. S. Army and for two years served with the Intelligence Division in Germany. After his tour of duty during the Korean War he entered graduate school at the University of Kentucky.In early life he learned to play golf at the Winchester Country Club. As he grew up he learned to play golf at the WCC and spent many years as a qualified golfer. He played with many different teams which included Buddy Mahan, Gene Freeman, and Jimmy Martin. However, his main love was music. Singing with his baritone voice for many years in the First Methodist Church choir in Winchester. After he took a job with Ohio Casualty Insurance, he was sent to Madisonville, Ky where he sang in the First Methodist Church choir for over sixty consecutive years. His main musical interest was singing with the Madisonville Community Choir. He sang the Messiah by Handel for over fifty years. Mr. Baber is survived by his wife, Patricia Place Baber and his two children, Laura Ann Baber of Brookline, Massachusetts and David Allan Baber of Newburgh, Indiana. He is also survived by his sister, Joyce Baber Ballard of Winchester, his nieces and nephews, Martha Ellen Ladson and Ralph Nelson Ladson of Winchester, Joyce Kimberly Ballard of Edina, Minnesota and Mary Ballard Ward of Shelter Island, New York. He was predeceased by his sister Helen Baber Ladson and his parents.
In honor of Mr. Baber, contributions may be sent to the Madisonville Community Choir to support the singing of the Messiah for many more years. Please refer to their Facebook page for mailing information. A memorial service will take place at a later date.
