The Winchester Fire Department was dispatched to a home West Hickman St. when a call came in at 11:19 a.m,  in reporting a fire inside a home  where three adult individuals reside.

“When our crews were on the scene, they had pretty heavy smoke and fire from the second floor of the house,” said Winchester FD Battalion Chief Jason Keller. “We did transport one of the occupants of the house to a hospital for burns in the fire.”

The severity of the burns or the status of the person sent to the hospital are currently known.

The fire was extinguished within a short time.

“The majority of the fire [was extinguished] by about 11:30,” Keller said. “We had a lot of overhaul to do, and it took a little bit longer just due to the outside temperatures.”

The overhaul process involved making sure the fire was clearly extinguished and removing burned materials out of the house, a process complicated by hot outdoor temperatures that forced to crew members quickly rotating in and out.

“The majority of the damage was to the second floor of the house. We had our fire marshals on scene and they continued to conduct the investigation,” Keller said.
