George Davies Clark, of DeLand, FL, passed away peacefully at his home on June 17, 2022. George was born in Winchester, KY on July 29, 1935 to Dr. Garland H. Clark and Elizabeth Davies Clark. George was preceded in death by his parents, his son Garland David Clark, his daughter Gale Clark Hoffman (Joe), and brother-in-law, Dick Hensley. Survivors include his wife Heide Clark, who was by his side when he died; his son Dr. Gary D. Clark, Lexington, KY; his daughter Gwen Clark DiMeo (Victor), Cincinnati, Ohio; his son Grant D. Clark (Stacey), Ormond Beach, FL; and his step-daughter Dawn Cope (Scott), Port Orange FL. Other survivors include his sisters, Helen Clark Hensley, Martinsville, VA, and Joyce Clark Johnson (Billy), DeLand, FL; his 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. George graduated from Winchester High School and went on to attend Stetson University, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He also attended the University of Kentucky. George’s education was interrupted by service in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Following his time in the Army, George moved to Newport News, Virginia, where he worked as a sales representative at Sears, adjuster for State Farm Insurance, and as a copyrighter for WGH radio station where he also hosted a classical music program. George worked as a night auditor with Yancey Motel Chain before moving to Williamsburg,VA, where he worked for the business department of William and Mary College. While there, he continued his education graduating Christopher Newport University – William and Mary extension with a degree in accounting. He received his Masters Degree in accounting from Central Michigan University. He was a licensed CPA in the states of Florida, Virginia and West Virginia. George relocated to Florida to work in the business and budgeting department of the University of Miami, and later to Daytona Beach, FL to work at Daytona Beach Community College. George was the business manager of payroll when he retired from DBCC in 1998. George served on the Board of Directors for WCEU Credit Bureau and received an award for his work on a quality performance project. Following retirement George volunteered with AARP preparing tax returns for no fee. Throughout his life George was known for his personal warmth and smile, his kindness to others, his love of all animals (especially his Jack Russell Terriers), and his quirky sense of humor. He was a Master Bridge player, and avid fan of the UK Wildcats basketball team (also regularly attended Stetson Hatter games), enjoyed all kinds of music (including classical), and had a love of nature. His happiest times were spent in his many cross-country RV travels with Heide, especially enjoying their numerous visits to the national parks in the western part of the US. George will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. Donations in George’s memory can be made to the Halifax Humane Society, Daytona Beach.
