After TikTok videos inspired Callie Thornton to start a bungee fitness studio, The Fly Witches took flight in June of 2021 as the first of its kind in central Kentucky.

On Sunday, there was plenty of cause to celebrate, as the business celebrated its one-year anniversary with classes, food and drink trucks, and an opportunity to experiment the benefits of what they offer.

“It’s crazy, [and] very exciting,” said Thornton. “I’m glad that we made it this far, and that we have the clients we do.”

At the day’s beginning, a new client journey welcomed individuals to discover more about the studio’s offerings.

With its unique bungee fitness classes, several residents showed up to learn more.

Among them was Renee Phillips.

“We’ll definitely be back,” Phillips said. “We burned a sweat, a lot of calories and had a good time. It’s a lot less impact, and that’s a big thing. This was perfect.”

Along with the new client journey, classes in bounce and pound, plus apprentice, evolving, and soaring, were showcased.

The latter three are designed for clients in the beginners through advanced stages, which has intrigued both males and females throughout the past year.

“Originally, I’d seen videos of bungee fitness throughout the country, and then my roommate had found out that there is a location here in Winchester,” said Ben Wells. “I was hesitant at first. I came and just tried it and was like, ‘Yeah, this makes working out fun.'”

Plus, more than one instructor and a different crew has provided much excitement and education along the way.

“Having an instructor, and being with a great group of girls that uplift you is a really good thing to get into,” said Hayleigh Bevins. “Honestly, I’ve been doing it for a month, and I’ve already seen a difference.”

Certainly not least of all, from noon to 3 p.m., the event was graced with both Rooster’s Whistle and the Flying Waffle Truck food vendors.

While the former specializes in coffee, the latter has unique Belgian waffle creations including chicken and other meats.

With strong plans for the future, it’s only a wonder what year number two might bring for the Fly Witches.

“We envisioned it, [and] see it as a place where people can feel welcome and not judged,” said studio manager Becca Bingamon.
