A new executive director has been chosen to head the Winchester-Clark County Industrial Authority.

The board of directors recently announced that Brad Sowden has been chosen for the position. According to a news release, Sowden will assume his new role and responsibilities beginning August 1st. ‘

“I am excited about this opportunity, of course wishing it were under different circumstances,” said Sowden in the release. “I knew Todd Denham for 22 years and worked closely with him for the 17 years he held this position. I am proud to carry his torch and continue his legacy of ensuring growth, development, and opportunity for the people of Winchester and Clark County.”

Sowden begins the position following a 30-year career that has spanned multiple roles with Kentucky Utilities Company, primarily as a senior economic development project manager. Along with economic development, he has over 20 years of experience in marketing, public relations, volunteering, and special events. His background includes a bachelors degree in business administration from the University of Virginia at Wise, and he is a graduate of Oklahoma University’s Economic Development Institute, according to the release.

Clark County Judge-Executive Henry Branham sounded off on the appointment.

“It is great to have someone with Brad’s background, education, experience, and community involvement join us in leading our community in economic development. We are excited as we start down this next road of service to Winchester and Clark County with Brad,” said Branham in the release.

Winchester Mayor Ed Burtner was also pleased with the announcement

“We are so pleased to have someone with Brad’s background, education, experience, and community involvement join us in leading Winchester and Clark County and serving the businesses of our community,” said Burtner in the release.

Board chair Ron Tierney also had kind words to add about the appointment.

“We are thrilled to bring Brad on board during such an exciting time for the City of Winchester and Clark County. Brad’s passion for working with people and businesses will tie in perfectly with our organization’s mission,” Tierney said in the release.
