This Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., a group of re-enactors from Holder’s Company in North Carolina will be at Fort Boonesborough State Park.

All are welcome.

“Our regular programming will continue side-by-side with a living history interpretation from this particular group”, said Steve McKinney, Parks Program Services Supervisor at Fort Boonesborough State Park.

A volunteer group of adults will make their way to the park to show people clothing, equipment, and more consistent with the time period between approximately 1775 – 1785.

“They’ll show how to handle the rifles and muskets of the period,” said McKinney. “They’ll probably do a little shooting, they may do some drilling.”

The group hopes to provide an education pertaining to Kentucky’s history, particularly as it relates to frontier life.

It is one of many living history groups that typically arrives at the camp approximately once a month, with larger events taking place throughout the year.

Holder’s Company has been to the location previously.

“The people that come to the fort and talk to these interpreters will learn more about their American history, and especially about the history here in Kentucky being the frontier of the American Revolutionary War”, added McKinney. “All of Kentucky was of course targeted by the British and their Native American allies, so the frontier was a very dangerous place to be.”
