The Winchester Labor Day Committee is now taking parade and vendor applications for its annual end-of-the-summer celebration until Aug. 22nd.
Interested parties should contact Flora Shelby at 859-644-9074 or Sherry Hampton at 859-749-9782.
The festivities will begin on Friday, Sept. 2nd, and conclude with the parade on Monday, Sept. 5th. This will be the first time the parade and coinciding events have been held since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The parade is the weekend’s centerpiece and will start at noon on Labor Day.
“We are featuring the Kentucky State University Band, Sullivan College, and George Rogers Clark [High School]. We are going to have steppers in the parade. We are going to have a gospel in front of the courthouse before the parades go on between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.,” said Flora Shelby.
Monday will also see the Labor Day Queen crowned.
The weekend festivities will kick off on Friday with Youth Night from 8-11 p.m. at Heritage Park.
“We are going to be doing TikTok for the youth,” Shelby said.
Other events will occur at the park and on W. Washington St., which will be closed all weekend.
Family Day will be Saturday at the park. Shelby said there will be games, inflatables, and a live DJ.
More live music will occur later that evening from 8-11 p.m. and then on Sunday.
“We will have a live band on the stage on W. Washington St.,” Shelby said. “On Sunday will have a gospel singing from 3-5 p.m. in Heritage Park. We will have other activities throughout the day; then we will have another band – Encore – on stage from 7-11 p.m.”
