Clark County Public Library
What’s the best solution to the rising costs of movie streaming services? A Clark County Public Library card.
The Library has welcomed a number of new patrons who joined because their streaming fees increased and service was not reliable. Library patrons can have out twenty DVD’s at a time, from classics to the latest TV series. Browse through the Library’s vast entertaining and educational DVD collections. If the Library doesn’t have the DVD you want, request a copy.
Or, access thousands of classic, contemporary, indie, and documentary videos free through CCPL’s online Overdrive, Kanopy, and Hoopla services.
If there’s a movie you’d like to see but can’t remember its title, a Librarian can use movie databases to find the title for you.
After finding DVD’s you like, pick up a few Playaways to listen to while walking or working out, spend some time looking at the Reference Reading area art show, find a swell new novel, and pick up a book on a topic you’ve always wanted to explore.
All fee and commercial free in a cool, quiet environment with comfy chairs.
Someone walking through one of Winchester’s parks found a rock with a penguin painted on it.
If you’re that person, bring the rock to the Library and you’ll receive a $25 gift certificate to the downtown Winchester business of your choice.
That penguin is the prize-winning rock for Walk Winchester’s July segment of the 2022 Adult Summer Reading Program. If you’ve got the penguin rock, turn it in at the circulation desk.
Give the Librarian who takes it your name, phone number, and the name of the downtown Winchester business from which you’d like a gift certificate. In a few days, a Librarian will call to let you know the gift certificate is ready.
Monday, August 22, 11 AM, Pageturner’s Book Group discusses “Finlay Donovan is Killing It,” by Elle Cosimano
Finlay Donovan is a stressed-out single-mom of two and struggling novelist. Finlay’s life is in chaos: the new book she promised her literary agent isn’t written, her ex-husband fired the nanny without telling her, and she had to send her four-year-old to school with hair duct-taped to her head after an incident with scissors.
When Finlay is overheard discussing the plot of her new suspense novel with her agent, she’s mistaken for a contract killer, and inadvertently accepts an offer to dispose of a problem husband in order to make ends meet. Finlay discovers crime in real life is more difficult than in fiction, and gets tangled in a real-life murder investigation.
Fast-paced, deliciously witty, and wholeheartedly authentic in depicting the frustrations and triumphs of motherhood “Finlay Donovan Is Killing It” is the first in a brilliant new series from YA Edgar Award nominee Elle Cosimano. Books available at the circulation desk. You will be registered to attend when you check out a copy.
