Lady Cards defeat Bourbon, Montgomery counties

The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals and the Bourbon County Lady Colonels pushed each other to the limit in volleyball action Tuesday evening, but GRC won in five sets in Paris.
GRC (8-3) won the first set 25-22. The Lady Colonels collected the following two sets, 25-11 and 25-21. With their backs against the wall, GRC rallied to win the fourth set, 25-23, and then captured the final set, 15-8.
Junior Ella Lowe and eighth-grader Mia Pendley combined for 18 of GRC’s 39 kills. Junior Kelsey McKeehan recorded 22 of the team’s 34 assists. McKeehan and senior Zarey Hooten combined for 38 of the team’s 79 digs.
The Lady Cards took on rival Montgomery County in Mount Sterling on Wednesday evening. The Lady Indians took the first set 25-20, but GRC rallied to capture the next three, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-22.
GRC took a tough home loss to neighbor Madison Central last Thursday in three straight sets (25-12, 25-19, and 25-18). The Lady Cards had 48 digs as a team. Lowe and junior Kamryn Toler combined for 22 digs. Pendley had nine of the team’s 23 kills. McKeehan recorded 14 of the team’s 18 assists.
GRC returns home to face Lexington Christian next Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
