Agnes Long Estes, 91, went to be with her Lord on September 10, 2022, at her home in Athens, Alabama. A former resident of Winchester, Kentucky, she was born December 14, 1930, to the late Thomas Calvin Long and Mae Holder Long. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Winchester from 1949-2020 where she served in various roles in the children’s ministries, part time secretary in the church office, and a charter member of the Jean Bach Mission Group as secretary and program director. Upon relocating to Athens, Alabama, she moved her membership to the First Baptist Church of Athens. From 1972-1988 while working as the Guidance Secretary at the George Rogers Clark High School, she enjoyed the role of box mother to numerous marching band members. This allowed her to mentor and “mother” hundreds of students while traveling to band contests and caring for their uniforms. As a Band Booster member, she worked concessions at most home sporting events.

She is preceded in death by a sister, Jeanett Long; a brother, Ralph Long; and her loving husband, Eugene Estes, of Winchester, Kentucky and is survived by a son, Terry Eugene (Teresa) Estes of Winchester; a daughter, Teresa Gail (Keith) Smyser of Athens, Alabama; four grandchildren, Aaron (Samantha) Smyser of Starkville, Mississippi; Whitney (Devin) Kroh of Louisville, Kentucky; Richard (Meagan) Estes of Denver, Kentucky; Caitlin (John) Troutman, II of Stafford, Virginia; and eight precious great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 10:00 -12:00PM for a celebration of life, followed immediately by a service on September 13, 2022, at First Baptist Church, 32 Lexington Avenue, Winchester, Kentucky. A private graveside service will follow. Pallbearers are Aaron Smyser, Richard Estes, Devin Kroh, John Troutman II, Bob Steele, Bill Pumphrey, and Bill Bunch.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be offered in her memory to the Children’s Ministries of First Baptist Church,
Winchester, Kentucky.
