GRC defeats Montgomery County in soccer showdown

The GRC Lady Cards took down the Montgomery County Lady Indians in a rivalry match Wednesday evening in Mount Sterling, 4-2.

The matchup was the first of the season between the district and region rivals. Stats were not available at press time.

The Lady Cards (9-3-2) were coming off a 1-1 home draw against the Campbell County Lady Camels. Stats were not available as of this writing.

In their last match, the Lady Indians demolished the Paris Lady Greyhounds 10-0.

The Lady Cards have gotten solid production from senior forward Ciana Araya, who leads the team in goals (9) and assists (10). Sophomore forward Reese Patrick has contributed eight goals to the Lady Cards’ cause, and junior midfielder Madison Stapleton has netted six times.

Sophomore midfielder Ella Vanhooser has assisted on five goals this season.

GRC will go on the road to face Paris on Sept. 19. Match time is 6 p.m. They will close the season with matches against Bourbon County on Sept. 21 and Henry Clay on Sept. 26 before post-season play begins.
