The George Rogers Clark Cardinals snapped a three-match winless streak with a pair of emphatic shutout victories.
The Cards (8-4-5) defeated Paris and Mason County by a combined score of 15-0 over the past week.
The Paris Greyhound visited Winchester last Thursday, Sept 15., and left with a 5-0 defeat. Four different Cardinals found the back of the net: Junior striker/midfielder Clay Turley, junior forward/midfielder PK Vogel, senior striker/midfielder Will Carrington and senior defender Wade Richardson. Turley knocked in a brace to continue his recent hot streak in front of the goal. Richardson and sophomore midfielder Hayden Cockrell each assisted on a Cards’ score.
The shutout was the Cards’ first since a 2-0 victory over Russell on Aug. 20.
GRC followed up the victory over Paris with more offensive fireworks in a 10-0 demolition of the visiting Mason County Royals. Carrington snagged a hat-trick. Rylan Graves contributed a brace. Five other Cards scored: sophomore midfielder Caleb Bush, junior striker/midfielder Joby Mitmesser, sophomore midfielder Conner Thorn, Turley, and Richardson. Cockrell, Mitmesser, and Turley combined to assist on five goals.
Turley’s latest scoring exploits put him over the ten-goal mark for the season with 11. He also leads the team in assists with six. Carrington is also into double figures for the season with ten goals.
The Cards take on the Perry County Central Commodores at home Thursday in a 6:30 p.m. match.
