Ethel Jo Stone Gibson, 83, returned to her heavenly home on Monday, November 14, 2022, at Sayre Christian Village in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Clark County, KY, on October 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Stone and Mayetta Everman Stone. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by her brother, Jackie Stone and her husband, David Mitchell Gibson.

Ethel was a homemaker and her family meant absolutely everything to her. She was always there for them and happily took on the roles of nurse, cheerleader, carpool driver, secretary, and personal shopper, just to name a few. Gift giving was especially important to her, and she made sure to make each person feel incredibly special on their birthdays. She loved celebrating Christmas and created wonderful traditions and memories that her family will cherish for years to come.

She was the biggest Kentucky Basketball and Football fan there ever was! She never missed a game and traveled to tournaments throughout the years. She cheered loudly from the stands or at home and everyone who knew her genuinely enjoyed her excitement when her favorite team was winning.

Ethel amazed everyone with her strength when she became ill in 2019. She declined rapidly and spent 30 days at Mayo Clinic; however, after being treated by over 150 physicians, she returned to Kentucky without a diagnosis. That was incredibly difficult, and she struggled greatly but she never once complained! Her attitude was extremely positive, and she displayed the most wonderful sense of humor. She made the best out of her situation and put a smile on her face most days to everyone’s disbelief. To say she was strong is simply an understatement. She was in fact a warrior!

She will be dearly missed by all who knew and adored her, and it brings her family tremendous joy that she is now reunited with her beloved husband who has welcomed “Big E” back into his arms.
The family would like to convey special thanks to Barbara Jo Redding (Ethel’s sister-in-law) for the loving care and countless hours she spent with her. They would also like to acknowledge her caregivers at Sayre (Shirley, Kara, and Roxanne) who provided comfort during her final days.

Survivors include her daughters Karen Gibson and Missy (Brad) Manuel, son Mitch (Cheryl) Gibson and grandchildren, Graysen Jo Manuel, Krista Brummette, and Melissa Brummette. She is also survived by her furry friend, Rainey who she took care of for many years.

Services will be at 2:00PM, Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Leon Pace Memorial Chapel by Scobee Funeral Home in Winchester, Ky. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

Family will receive friends from 12:00PM until the time of service.
