BOE sets 2023-24 school calendar

The good news for Clark County Public Schools students next year od longer fall, and Thanksgiving breaks.
During a regularly called meeting last Tuesday, the Clark County Public School Board of Education approved the calendar for the 2023-24 school year.
Before the vote, the board heard its second reading of the proposed calendar.

The first day for staff will be on August 14, and the students will report for their first day on August 15.
The district will be closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, September 4.
Fall break will last for an entire week, Oct. 16-20.
On Tuesday, November 7, students will have the day off for Election Day. Teachers will have a scheduled work day.
Students and staff will enjoy a longer Thanksgiving Break. The holiday vacation will last an entire week from Nov. 22-26.
Winter break will last from December 21 to Jan. 1 of the new year.
Jan. 2 will be another teacher work day.
Schools will be closed on January 15, 2024, for the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday and the next month on February 15 for President’s Day.
March 6 will be another teacher work day.
Spring Break is scheduled for April 1-5.
The last day for students is May 17. Teachers will have another work day on May 20, and their closing day will be May 22.
It was also a laudatory night for several students as well.
George Rogers Clark’s Claire Martin was recognized for winning the Kentucky title of Distinguished Young Woman. She will represent the commonwealth in the national competition this summer.
Several seventh and eighth-grade students from Campbell Junior High School were recognized for their selection to the all-state band, choir, and orchestra.
Last but not least, Superintendent Dustin Howard presented all four board members since January is National School Board Month.
The next board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the district’s central office located off Lexington Ave.
