Michael Burger Poer, 73, passed away on February 5, 2023 at Saint Joseph Hospital, Lexington. Born in Winchester, Kentucky on January 11, 1950, he lived his entire life in Winchester, except while in college. He played basketball and baseball at George Rogers Clark High School, Freed-Hardeman University and Trevecca Nazarene, and also attended the University of Kentucky. He was a Professional Land Surveyor, working for 20 years at Palmer Engineering and 20+ years at East Kentucky Power Cooperative. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, a Knight of Columbus, received the Citizen of the Year award in 1994 from the Winchester Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed family, music, fishing, golf, and UK football and basketball.

He is survived by his wife of 49 1/2 years, Patricia Sherman Poer, daughters Amber (Kevin) Skillern, Stacey (Billy) Maslin, Courtney (Cory) Davis, and son Brad Poer, grandchildren Sydney, Savannah and Cameron Anderson, Will, Jacob and Olivia Maslin, Ryan, Nathan and Emmett Davis, Avrey and Peyton (Matt Jefferson) Skillern, and great granddaughter River Leigh Jefferson, sister Debbie (Jay) Cates, sister-in-law Carolyn Whitehouse, brothers-in-law Ralph Sherman,

Larry (Marsha) Sherman, Robert (Sharon) Sherman, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents, C.B. and Sylvia Poer. Pallbearers Brad Poer, Will Maslin, Jacob Maslin, Billy Maslin, Cory Davis, Kevin Skillern, Todd Wilson, and Jimmy Wilson. Honorary – Sydney, Savannah, and Cameron Anderson, Olivia Maslin, Ryan, Nathan and Emmett Davis, Peyton and Avrey Skillern, Roy Clay Palmer, James E. Poer, Ralph, Larry and Robert Sherman.

Visitation Wednesday, February 8 th, 5 -7pm at Leon Pace Memorial Chapel and at 9am on Thursday, February 9 th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, followed by Funeral Mass at 10am.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or any charity of choice.
