Birth Announcement

On March 22nd, 2023, Rhett William Thiry was born to Jacqueline & Josh Thiry of 154 Hawthorne Drive in Winchester, KY, 40391. Paternal grandparents are Bill & Sheri Thiry of 1199 McClure Road in Winchester. Maternal grandparents are Peter Hoesel of Saratoga Springs, FL, and MaryAnn DiGiovanni of Fort Pierce, FL. Paternal great-grandmother is Nancy Thiry of 106 Ashford Drive in Winchester. Maternal great-grandmother is Juanita Snapp of 10 Hart Avenue in Winchester.

Summer Camp

Fun activities include field trips, martial arts, tumbling, indoor games, dancing, outdoor sports, kid caves, guest speakers, and more.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi classes are now offered at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and 3:00 p.m. on Thursdays at the James B. Allen Generation Center, 32 Meadow Street. If practiced regularly, Tai Chan can benefit seniors in several ways: improved balance, decreased risk of high blood pressure, improved physical strength and sleep quality, and better overall physical and emotional well being. Substance Use Awareness 

Volunteers are sought for the upcoming Truth or Consequences Event on Friday, March 24th at George Rogers Clark High School.

Truth and Consequences is an enrichment event for 9th grade students at George Rogers Clark High School where students will be given a scenario related to substance use. Students will visit three or more community agencies or officials to learn what could happen if these scenarios happened to them. Students will also experience supplemental educational opportunities throughout the day. The purpose of the event is to open the conversation about substance use in our community in an effort to prevent future issues. This event is presented by Clark County Cooperative Extension in collaboration with Youth Service Center Coordinator at GRC.

Volunteers are needed to assist in the implementation of this event. A volunteer will:

  1. Accompany students to various booths based on their scenarios experience in the role of a trusted adult.

  2. Have discussion and interact with the students as they discover the impacts of substance use issues.

This is an all-day event beginning at 8am. The day is broken into two parts, morning and afternoon, so you can still volunteer for a portion of the day. Lunch will be provided.

Solar Economics Seminar

A half-day solar economics seminar by the Center for Energy Education will take place on Thursday, March 23rd from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Clark County Extension Office. The address is 1400 Fortune Drive in  Winchester. Workshop topics will include solar industry updates and trends, economic opportunities and benefits for solar farms, tax implications and revenue impacts for local government, and state and local permitting. Veteran Resource and Job Fair

In partnership with Kentucky Career Center J.V,S.G., Lady Veterans Connect presents a Veterans Resource and Job Fair on Friday, June 2nd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The location will be Anna’s House (the former Trapp School) at 11400 Irvine Road.
