Severe weather expected Wednesday evening

Rough weather is forecast for Winchester and Clark County on Wednesday.

The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has placed parts of central Kentucky, including Clark County, at an Enhanced risk – the third tier on a five-tier scale – for severe thunderstorms. The latest forecasts estimate a five percent chance of a tornado within 25 miles of a point in an area extending from western New York to central Arkansas. There is also a 30 percent chance of damaging winds within 25 miles to a point in an area stretching from southern Michigan to northern parts of Arkansas.

The National Weather Service branch office in Lousiville forecasts that the main threat for severe weather will be between 6 p.m. and midnight.

High winds with gusts as 45 mph are also forecast throughout the day, and the area is under a Wind Advisory until 8 p.m. this evening.

Scattered showers will persist into Thursday before giving way to clearer weather over the weekend. Highs are forecast to be in the high 50s and low 60s.
