The George Rogers Clark Lady Cardinals’ eight-game losing streak is over.
GRC (3-8) got back in the win column on Monday with a 4-3 victory over the Estill County Lady Engineers in Winchester. States were not available as of this writing.
The Estill County victory was the first time the Lady Cards had allowed less than 13 runs during a four-game stretch.
The Lady Cards struggled with two 13th Region opponents last week. The Corbin Lady Redhounds run-ruled GRC in six innings, 13-3, last Wednesday. The North Laurel Lady Jaguars, the region’s top team, defeated GRC by five runs, 13-8, last Thursday.
The Western Hills Lady Wolverines shut out GRC 18-0 last Saturday, with the Tates Creek Lady Commodores handing the Lady Cards another Saturday defeat, 17-5.
Eighth-grader Lilliana Hall continues to get it done at the bat and in the circle for the Lady Cards. Hall still leads the team in batting average (.520), home runs (two), hits (13), RBIs (11) and extra-base hits (nine). She also leads the team in ERA (3.63), innings pitched (27) and strikeouts (38).
Senior Ryleigh Vanhoose and sophomore Adddison Wilson are both hitting over. 400 and have driven in a combined 11 runs.
The Lady Cards will next take the field on April 10 against Lewis County.
